"Mixed Signals" is the third episode of Season 2 of ABC's A Million Little Things. It was written by David Marshall Grant, and directed by Steve Robin. It is the twentieth episode of the series overall, and premiered on October 10, 2019.

Summary[]

On the verge of becoming a filmmaker, Rome takes a meeting with an old producer friend which causes him to feel torn about the creative changes he suggests for his script. Meanwhile, Gary steps in to help Danny prepare to audition for his school play; while Delilah, craving some adult time, agrees to go to dinner with Andrew.[2]

Plot[]

Rome confronted PJ demanding to know why he thought Jonathan was his father. PJ admitted he overheard his mother talking along with saw Jonathan's video that was directed exactly for his mother apologizing for something Rome said that still wasn't enough evidence, But it seemed to change his mind after PJ said John left him half $1 million. He later brought back the red sweater that he had stolen knowing it had Jonathan's DNA. He confessed that he wanted to send it in for a DNA test but Rome pointed out that Gary's DNA would also be on the sweater, and it might not be any real proof. PJ wanted to go ahead with it anyway and Rome told him he would pay for it. After a short conversation with his mother asking if there was any extra money for his art scholarship because he wasn't sure if he was going to get any that he applied for. She said no and that's when PJ decided to go ahead and mail the box.

Katherine and Eddie were woken up to find Theo in the kitchen trying to make them pancakes but settled on cereal. Later when he was invited to his first sleepover they decided to go on a little date together. They debated about staying in but decided to go out not wanting to relive any sexual tension charged memories. They went to a bar only for Eddie to discover that Katherine was a shark when it came to pool, they shared a kiss but were interrupted by Theo who wanted to come home. He said he was too scared and couldn't even eat and they all decide to have dinner back at the house. While making chocolate chip cookies, Theo told his mother he got rid of her suitcase so she couldn't leave again.

While at the park with Charlotte, Delilah received a phone call from Andrew and they both agreed to go on a date that was not-an-actual-date. Later that day Gary dropped off diapers for her and agreed to babysit while she went to her meeting. It was a bit awkward between the two and they both agreed it was very hard neither were over their deceased spouses. That night, Delilah was very excited to find out Danny had gotten the part in his high school musical grease as the lead character Danny Zuko.

Gary and Maggie had a bit of a lover's-tiff and after visiting her at her work, Gary played himself in the two tried to objectively discuss the relationship from a third-party's perspective. Both agreed they had mother's issues, but before Gary could get any further into his, not that he wanted to, a client interrupted. In the meantime, Gary also found out that Daniel wanted to be in Greece the Musical and helped him audition for the role can Nikki. He babysat that night while Delilah went on her date, and took him to the school for the addition. Later Gary convinced Maggie to go see her mother, and when that didn't go well she reluctantly agreed to patch things up with lunch. But were both very awkwardly informed that Eric was coming when he showed up at their house with Maggie's mom Patricia.

Regina had a short meeting with Andrew and agreed to a couple of things including a social media expert. This reminded her of her sexual assault of a man holding power over her because she was also dealing with the women's charity that she had donated money to.

Trivia[]

  • A scene involving David Giuntoli, Grace Park and Philip Prajoux has been deleted from the episode. However, some promotional pictures from that scene have been used by ABC to promote the episode.
  • The episode starts right after the end of "Grand Canyon".
  • In this episode, severel continuity mistakes are made:
    • Theo states that he is 9 years old, but he is still 8 per "The Rock".
      • DJ Nash later justified this discrepancy by explaining that he wanted Tristan Byon to play his age, so he decided to change Theo's age.[3]
    • Maggie mentions that Gary's mother left after his 9th birthday party, but it was established that she left after his 7th birthday party in "Save the Date".
